Day 7 Of A New Year

And it’s the weekend. A short week for most I think with New Year’s Day being celebrated on Monday, and school not starting until Wednesday. Of course there are professions that scoff at the holidays like medical and the postal service. Can’t tell folks ‘sorry you got sick, it’s the weekend, it’s Christmas, it’s Thanksgiving Day, we’ll be back Monday (or in this case Tuesday) – hang in there but should you need the morgue press 1’ or just stop the mail for a day or two and ‘no one’s at their desk right now, we’ll get back to processing and delivery soon’ – talk about a worldwide collapse. These are both 24-hour professions. As a friend who works for the Post Office commented “What’s a day off?” When I was in medical I always said, “Sleep is overrated.”

But being a teacher in a daycare infant room these days, I appreciate having a weekend to veg, write, drink too much coffee because I’m home and can make some whenever, hanging with grandchildren, and seeing what the day might bring.

Oh yeah, and getting the laundry done. Most of my favorite things are dirty…
