Day 4 Of A New year

Peace, quiet and cold – makes my heat run entirely too much. No, not the peace and quiet. Had to happen I guess seeing it’s officially winter. For these parts this shouldn’t be until mid-February. Classically there’re two weeks of genuine winter, drops below zero, snow and then that’s it, warms to 40 – 50 degrees then eventually spring /summer. No dramatic changes here. No one will drive miles to photograph the brilliant colors of the trees. Foliage rolls with whatever the weather is that day; if it’s warm they begin to bloom, should the temp drop things dry up to get back to sleep, the occasional insect stumbles around flying into glass storm windows and should it be lucky enough to buzz inside is easily caught, flattened with a swatter or rolled dishtowel thanks to it’s lack of reflex action. We’ve all had those mornings we just should have stayed in bed.

But not today.

Kids are back in school. Busses are waking up, a new semester begins and we’ll see what the day brings.
