No Arguing

Who will you make peace with? Ah, a chance to share 100 words of philosophy as if there could be such a thing! What philosopher has narrowed anything to be said down to 100 words. The first thing to be discussed would be define peace. If anyone’s taken a philosophy class you’d know that in of itself could take a while. Then again peace simply means that war and violence have stopped. Even Cambridge agrees its calm and non-violence.

My take is I must be at peace with myself first, which will touch those I reach each day and spread.

The prompt is: “Who will you make peace with?”

Sunday solo salmon in Mumbai

Everyday Asia

Just after I booked my flight and stay for Jakarta, my attention turned to what needs to get done around the house before I take off for 3 weeks…

Did a little fridge digging and freezer check, discovering a frozen Atlantic salmon fillet just begging to be consumed with some assorted veggies….

My partner was on tour so it was just me, but one of the things about work travel is you learn to revel in the occasional ‘proper’ solo dinner…

So why not get into practice at home?

There you have it… found myself cooking up a storm to produce a scrumptious yet reasonably healthy Sunday dinner just for me, myself and I!

  • Poached salmon with a crazy yum citrus dill reduction sauce
  • Steamed cauliflower with a dash of tumeric
  • Toasted roasted beans with sesame, sunflower, yellow mustard and cumin seeds
  • Carrots with cumin and dill
  • Potatoes sautéed with onions a special…

Early This Morning

I rose early hours to sneak across the street

Not that it wasn’t light

It was but not bright

Not yet

But peaceful, so quiet

Getting back

I walk through the dew with sandals

Eww… cold wet feet

They’ll dry

To my ramps on and off

I cross the highway

One car passes by

A half-hearted attempt to break the sound barrier

“You first” shimmers through my mind

Under cables I limbo to reach the other side

I adore 24-hour stores

And shopping when no one’s awake

Shelves are stocked

Floors buffed bright

What a delight

Well, not the floors so much

But being able to shop without crowds

The smells of coffee even there

As café counters wake

Bread is baked food cooking

Cold cuts unwrapped and placed

We sleepy smile at each other and nod

Those of us who simply must be

I find my few things

The reasons for my quest

Others enter now

They begin but I’m done

I commune with an electronic teller and leave

No penny exchange

Cards and promises remain

Better hold up my end

Not like I’ll be giving it back

Whatever the future holds

I make my way home

Across ramps, under cables

Allow cars to zoom past

Four or five more than before

Still peaceful enough

A cool morning too

Unpack my bag so I can write

Make espresso

Get comfortable a red pillow on the floor

A coffee table named rightly so

Words’d been running through my mind as I’d stepped out the door

You know, as I was walking through dew

I thought, “Damn, wrong time to type (confounded muse)

Hope I remember something when I get back

Interesting what inspires, those simple things

Like a walk across the highway to get to a store…”

Well that’s it

Going to freshen up my espresso

Think of something to watch

Vampires my preference for Sunday

But I may not disturb this peace yet

Food for thought

I don’t know

A day off, chillaxin’

No pressing place to go

Beginning Again For The Umpteenth Time

A blank page but what to write

About new beginnings and dread

Who has the time when life changes

As the roller coaster clackity clacks

Is it always planned?

Hell no

A well-ordered life affords this luxury dread

Top edge dipping deep down it goes

It’s not that I don’t have an inkling

I do

Many times more than I can know

I must step without a gracious heads-up

I have to, you see

How many times can I begin?

Have I begun more accurately so

Now plus plus one, plus one, plus…

It’s happening again, away we go!

The prompt is “…a blank page but what to write…”
